A social-emotional approach to biting helps teachers understand the experience from the perspectives of the child, teacher, and family. Participants will explore the many reasons children may bite and learn calm, supportive strategies for responding when biting occurs. The training will focus on staying calm, curious, and compassionate, while identifying what the child may be communicating through their behavior. Participants will also examine how exclusion and expulsion can be biased and explore more equitable, supportive approaches that help children, families, and teachers feel understood and supported.
